Now is your chance to play the iconic music! Kids of all ages enjoy hearing it (and even most adults). The arrangement sounds great with drums, but also works perfectly fine without them. When playing without drum set you will likely want to omit the repeats. Playing time is 3:10 with repeats, 2:10 without. This piece has some tricky rhythm but most young people know what it's supposed to sound like. The playing level could be advanced intermediate, as long as they can get the patterns and your first trumpet has some high chops. You might want to have your drummer play a shuffle groove off the top, rather than the indicated Latin feel. ===.

Old Cavalry Fanfare for 3 Bb Trumpets & Kettledrums

Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.978843 By Keith Terrett. By Anon. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Baroque,Classical,Instructional,Traditional,Wedding. 6 pages. Keith Terrett #584509. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.978843). A Fanfare for three Bb Trumpets & Timpani. This was arranged from an old melody of unknown origin, for Eb Cavalry Trumpets and Kettledrums of the Queenâs Royal Irish Hussars Band, a former Northern Irish Regiment within the British Army; whose Colonel in Chief was HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. Winston Churchill was a young officer in the regiment, before the amalgamation of the 4th & 8th Hussars, to form the âQueenâs Royal Irish Hussarsââ. All cavalry regiments of the line, have a team of Cavalry Trumpets, who under the âTrumpet Majorâ, play at 11am each day outside regimental headquarters, for the Regiment. Traditionally the fanfare âstablesâ would be played first; followed by another fanfare of the ââTrumpet Majorâsââ choice. In cavalry regiments there is often a drum horse, on which the two timpani are positioned and played. An example would be the Queenâs Own Hussars, who for many years had a fine old drum horse, trained not to panic when the kettledrums were being played fortissimo! During the day, one trumpeter is on duty, and plays various trumpet calls throughout the day to signal important happenings in the regimentâs daily schedule of events. For example, Reveille is at 0630, Mess call at 0700, Mess call 1230, Guard mount 1800, Officers dress for dinner 2000, finishing with last post at 2200! There are also trumpet calls for fire, war and mucking out the horses! One morning when I was on trumpet duty in Germany at the tender age of 18, I woke up late, and just managed to play the ââReveilleââ trumpet call out of my bedroom window, in an effort not to be âchargedâ for missing a call! The equivalent in the Infantry would be the bugle, which is also used as a method of signaling to the regiment. This fanfare works well for three Bb trumpets and timpani. Eb cavalry trumpets are often written in the key of C, and harmonically there is no third on chord V due to the harmonics of the instrument, and the fact that they have no valves; giving a bare sounding chord. The trills in the first part are lip trills, on Bb trumpet, simply play a lip trill using the valves 1 & 3. The most famous Eb cavalry trumpeters in the British Army, are undoubtedly the trumpeters of the household cavalry, who perform in spectacular golden uniforms, complete with riding hats, at the state opening of parliament. Donât forget Eb cavalry trumpeters are musicians from the band,(they could be clarinettists),assigned to trumpet for two to three years, not so good for your embouchure!! So when you hear a mis-pitched note in future, you know that the trumpeter could be a bassoonist, doing his or her very best.

Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792812 Composed by Antonio Vivaldi. Arranged by Niels-Bo Ole Johansen. Baroque,Classical,Renaissance. Score and parts. 95 pages. Gordon Cherry #6638557. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792812). Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets in C with Brass Ensemble and Timpani is a rarity for the Baroque era when solos for brass instruments were almost non-existent. The valveless nascent Trumpets were very difficult to play. But as with Bach, there must have been a few brave souls who mastered the instrument and inspired the composer to write his inspired work.As with most of Vivaldi's concertos, this one begins with a quick and sparkling movement to catch the attention of the audience and to showcase the bright tones of the solo trumpets. This is followed by a contrasting brief and languid second movement. The final movement is back to brilliant mode with quick energy and intricate passages for the soloists. (Encylopedia Britannica).Niels-Ole Bo Johansen has created a very unique arrangement for the two solo Trumpets with Brass Ensemble and Timpani...unique in that the accompaniment instruments are almost all conical (except for the trombones who can blend nicely into that pool of round sounds). This gives the listener a sharp contrast between the brilliance of the soloists and the plush sound of the accompaniment. The 6 1/2 minute work is appropriate for advanced performers. The instrumentation is for: 2 solo Trumpets in A, 2 Cornets in B-flat, Flugelhorn, 2 Horns in F, 3 Trombones, Euphonium, 2 Tubas, and Timpani.

Brass Quintet - Three Pastoral Sketches
Quatuor de Cuivres : 2 trompettes, trombone, tuba
Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767578
(+)
Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.767578 Composed by Mike Lyons. Contemporary. Score and parts. 81 pages. Lyons Music Services #6422239. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767578). These three pieces form a small suite, linked by the idea of âpastoralâ or rustic situations and places. The first piece to be written now forms the middle movement, though at first it was the starting point. This is not easy music. It travels through several keys with large numbers of sharps and flats and in places the time signature shifts constantly. The first movement is modal, being based on the mixolydian and dorian modes. I took for this movement the idea of ancient Celts celebrating a victory and dancing and getting drunk around a smoky fire. Their chieftain strikes up a song, accompanied by a double drone. This melody is initially stated on the horn, with just two other instruments providing the accompaniment. At 4 before B, the remaining instruments join in, providing a rhythmic pulse and the melody moves to the Euphonium/Baritone/Trombone. Subtle variations shape the melody anew, leading to letter C. Here the complex overlapping rhythms provide a more dance-like feel to the music. Also, countermelodies start to appear which build the excitement. At letter E, the music becomes louder and the rhythmic pulse more insistent (perhaps they are dancing on the tables?) The mode changes to the more major sounding mixolydian. But from here on in, the revellers are starting to wend their way home, still singing and dancing and they gradually fade into the distance. At letter G, weâre back to three players, but with the trumpet 1 playing a rhythmic melody over the top of the original tune. The second movement is called The Aesthetes. The aesthetic movement was formed in the 19th century, but had been around before that in less formal garb. Their ideal was to emulate the Ancient Greeks and Romans â or at least their perception of what the ancients were like as found in statues, paintings and friezes. They adopted studied poses and were very effete in their mannerisms. Gilbert and Sullivan parodied the aesthetic movement in their operettas â particularly Princess Ida (but also in the Mikado and various others). So, here is a movement with classical lines in the style of a minuet, but in 6/8 rather than ¾ so that it can be more languid. All the melodies are âstudiedâ and âformalâ with long, languid notes and rhythms which donât quite fit to the beat as the aesthetes pose and ponder and languidly look, studied and pale and wan. Because of the long notes in the melody, thereâs an almost dream-like quality to the music as if they are seeing through a haze of Wormwood or Absinthe (a favourite drink of the aesthetes when they werenât high on themselves or opiates). The third and final movement is called The Bohemians. This was also a movement at the end of the 19th Century. Where the aesthetes were ruled by rules, the Bohemians lived by none. They were considered wild and unconventional to say the least. The Bohemians movement owed much to the supposed free life and style of the gypsies and wanderers of Europe. Our piece starts with a gypsy violin style opening, including a cadenza, and then moves into the rapidly time shifting and gyrating gypsy dance. This section is in alternating bars of 5/8 and 6/8 with occasional 11/8 thrown in to keep you off balance. The frantic and frenetic movement continues up to letter F where things calm down a little â but not for long as the intensity increases again from Letter H to the quite sudden ending. This is tuneful yet challenging music which will take a lot of effort, but which will give a lot back in return.

Joy, Joy, Everyone Is Flying - Easy Trumpet Duet

Trumpet Duet Trumpet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1088949 Composed by Eddie Lewis. Classical,Contemporary,Instructional. Score. 4 pages. Tiger Music #693161. Published by Tiger Music (A0.1088949). Give your students something modern to work on. Joy, Joy, Everyone Is Flying trumpet duet uses a modern compositional technique. Joy, Joy Everyone Is Flying trumpet duet is actually part of my recent modern composition series. The idea was to see if I could write one of those compositions for trumpet duet with Trumpet Tyro limitations. Being composed from a nontraditional technique, Joy, Joy, Everyone Is Flying does not sound like the typical âdo re miâ beginner band music. As an educational piece, it serves as a wonderful opportunity to expose the students to exotic sounds. The piece begins like a traditional imitative piece, but you soon hear a non-traditional modality. That modality is emphasized in the B section with grace notes that give it an eastern hint. Joy, Joy, Everyone Is Flying is a short duet, lasting under a minute. This is because it is written for students who were beginners only months ago. Other Duet Books I have published similar duets to this one in my two other duet books for this level. The first and most popular is Celebrations which has trumpet duets for all skill levels. The second, which has some of the Celebrations duets, is called Twenty Trumpet Tyro Duets. In the trumpet community we use duets as educational tools. They are a wonderful way to expose students to counterpoint, different harmonies and different rhythmic ideas. By including more of the modern duets in the easier duet books, the younger students have an opportunity to experience non-traditional music in what is essentially a chamber music environment. The Experimental Music Series Iâve published a number of these experimental works for trumpet and brass instrumentations. The newer ones were in response to the popularity of the fishing suites. I had gone years without writing any of these compositions and wanted to apply the techniques to trumpet trio. The fishing suites are a suite of suites, each suite being dedicated to a different composition technique. Of those three suites, Catch Suite is the one that uses the same technique as Joy, Joy, Everyone Is Flying. Other compositions utilizing this compositional technique include The Lotus Eater and Voice of the Prophets. SKILL LEVEL The skill level for Joy, Joy, Everyone Is Flying is Trumpet Tyro. Trumpet Tyro is the second of seven levels in our system. This is music for trumpet students with a range up to fourth space E. The music in this level is limited to three flats or sharps. We almost bumped this piece up into the Trumpet Player level because of all the accidentals, but eventually decided to keep it in the Trumpet Tyro level. Technically, the accidentals all fall within acceptable keys for this level, so we kept it at the lower level. That said, because it is non-traditional, it will take a little longer to learn. The melodic sounds will not come as readily as the traditional âdo re miâ stuff. Practice Recommendations Listening to the recording is a very important part of learning something with new sounds. You want to be able to hear those sounds. Hereâs an interesting bit of trivia for you⦠When I am using one of these original compositional techniques, I know when Iâve made a mistake because I can hear that it sounds different. I believe this is the sign of a technique that works. If thereâs a mistake, the composer should be able to hear that thereâs something wrong. Well, performing music that utilizes these sorts of non-traditional techniques goes far better when the performers can also hear the music that way.

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1149129 By John Coltrane. By John Coltrane. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century,Blues,Jazz,Multicultural,Standards,World. 11 pages. Keith Terrett #749258. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1149129). An arrangement of John Coltrane's classic Equinox for Brass Quintet with optional drum kit. Equinox is a minor blues jazz standard by American jazz saxophone player and composer John Coltrane. Originally released on Coltrane's Sound[ played in C# minor with a slow swing feel. However, it is usually played in the key of C Minor and often covered on the flute Coltraneâs wife Naima named the song Equinox. The equinox occur twice a year, when the tilt of the Earthâs axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the sun. John Coltrane was born on September 23, 1926, the day of the official autumn equinox of that year. The release of Equinox was delayed until 1964 when Atlantic issued the album Coltraneâs Sound. Before he recorded it, Coltrane performed Equinox several times in live venues, including a session with Miles Davisâ rhythm section and at the 1960 Monterey Jazz Festival. Unfortunately, the other Atlantic recordings of Equinox were lost in the 1978 warehouse fire before they were released.Unlike Naima and My Favorite Things, Equinox would not become part of Coltrane's repertoire. Coltrane's attitude in writing Equinox is described by Dr Lewis Porter as Coltrane was a serious blues player and his blues pieces reflect the desire to get back to a primal mood, and away from the emotionally lighter, harmonically more complicated and complex blues of the boppers. Equinox is introduced by McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones with a Latin rhythmic passage which shifts into the slower tempo of the theme. The composition evokes a sense of mystery. Coltrane then enters on the horn (a tenor), his playing slow and pensive. The theme is repeated for two choruses and then stating the theme twice. He then proceeds with an improvisation of unusual emotional depth - reminiscent of a preacher exhorting his congregation. Elvin Jones make dramatic use of drum rolls and cymbal crashes throughout the song to maintain the sense of mystery. McCoy Tyner comps with a light feel.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1221432 By Stan Kenton & His Orchestra. By L. Wolfe Gilbert, Marion Sunshine, and Moises Simons. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Jazz,Latin,Multicultural,Pop,World. 39 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #817754. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1221432). Can a brass quintet sound like Stan Kentonâs 19-piece big band? No, not really:  no saxophones, no rhythm section, no Milt Bernhart, no Maynard Ferguson, no Bill Russo, no Conte Candoli, no . . .  Well, you get the picture.  But five brass instruments can play in the Kenton style.  And thatâs what this is:  âThe Peanut Vendorâ in the style of the Stan Kenton Orchestra.   Moisés Simonsâ âEl Maniseroâ (âThe Peanut Vendorâ) was first recorded in the late 1920s.  The melody was relatively simple yet exotic sounding; the lyrics, a Cuban street vendorâs pitch for selling his bags of peanuts.  Consumers bought more than a million copies of the sheet music, and the song supposedly led to a ârumba crazeâ in the U.S. and Europe (although the song is not really a rumba!).     Don Azpiazú and his Havana Casino Orchestra recorded the song for RCA Victor in 1930 with Antonio MachÃn on the vocal; its sales may well have been more than the million-plus sheet music copies sold.     English lyrics were added by L. Wolfe Gilbert and Marion Sunshine and the song became âThe Peanut Vendor.â  One estimate is that nearly 200 recordings have been made.  Thatâs a lot of peanuts.    Stan Kenton revived âThe Peanut Vendorâ in 1947 when he first recorded it for Capitol Records.  His version was completely instrumental.  Rhythm and saxophones opened the number and established the background; later the trombone section added emphasis.  A trombone solo first stated the melody but eventually the five-person trumpet section took over with what one writer referred to as âshrieking dissonances.â  âThe Peanut Vendorâ subsequently became one of Kentonâs most requested numbers and he recorded it at least three more times.   This brass quintet arrangement, of course, has access to only two trumpets.  So the good news is that all five players get a chance with the melody.  Kentonâs extended opening trombone solo is shared by Trombone and Tuba.  The âshrieking dissonancesâ are performed not only by Trumpets but also by Horn in F and Trombone.  The bad news is that all five players have to take a turn with the continuing rhythmic background melody.  Written in 4/4 time, the suggested tempo is 184 BPM in a Latin style.  Kentonâs version is in B-flat major; this arrangement lowers it to A-flat major so that most notes are within the normal playing range of the instruments.  (Donât worry; the âshrieking dissonancesâ are still there!)     Completed in 2023, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 37 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge.  He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms.  For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box.  (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.).

Brass Quintet Baritone Horn TC,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1273084 By Keith Terrett. By Duke Ellington/Barney Bigard. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century,Jazz,Standards. 11 pages. Keith Terrett #865274. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1273084). An arrangement of C Jam Blues for Brass Quintet. The extra parts are not necessary, but are provided if you have extra players such as a Bb Piccolo Trumpet & Bb Trombone/Euphonium in TC.New Orleans-born clarinetist Barney Bigard is likely the originator of this tune, a simple blues riff in the key of C. Since Bigard was a veteran member of Duke Ellingtonâs Orchestra in 1941, Duke had a slice of the pie, too, and undoubtedly arranged the piece for the orchestra. Yet Duke referred to the number somewhat disparagingly as âone of our more or less trite things.âThe number was introduced in a Soundie short film. These three-minute features, produced to be shown on a jukebox-type player, illustrated the band miming to a pre-recorded performance. Entitled âJam Sessionâ the Soundie was filmed late in 1941 along with four other Ellington numbers. Duke introduces various band members, who then solo: Ray Nance (violin), Ben Webster (tenor sax), Rex Stewart (cornet), Joe âTricky Samâ Nanton (trombone), and Sonny Greer (drums). The complete ensemble carries the tune to its finish with composer Bigard (clarinet) providing some improvised upper register piping.âC Jam Bluesâ was formally recorded under that title in January, 1942, for RCA Victor Records. It continued be a staple of the Ellington repertoire, generally featuring a handful of the soloists in the band.Co-composer Barney Bigard left Dukeâs band in June 1942, and after a period of freelancing joined Louis Armstrongâs All-Stars in August, 1947. âC Jam Bluesâ was one of his nightly features with Satchâs ensemble along with âTea for Two.â Despite playing the tune hundreds, or perhaps even thousands of times during his tenure with Ellington and Armstrong, he continued to perform it during his freelance years in the 1950s until shortly before his death in 1980.In the late-1950s very simple words were added (âBaby, letâs go down to âDukeâs Placeâ,â etc.) which strangely took a three-member team of writers to assemble: songwriters William Katz and Ruth Roberts and record producer Bob Thiele. Clarinetist Barney Bigard was not included in the composer credits of the song version, although he was a member of Louis Armstrongâs All-Stars when they recorded âDukeâs Place,â featuring Louis on the vocal, with Ellington in 1961.The piece typically features several improvised solos. The final solo continues in the upper register as the entire ensemble comes in and the music grows to a climax. The melody likely originated from the clarinetist Barney Bigard in 1941, but its origin is not perfectly clear. It was also known as Dukeâs Place, with lyrics added by Bill Katts, Bob Thiele and Ruth Roberts Western Swing band leader Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys recorded the song sometime between mid-1945 through 1947 as part of the Tiffany Transcriptions. The 10-note occasional riff formed the basis of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Bandâs novelty song Intro Outro.Need an anthem fast? Broadway,Musical/Show. 22 pages. Peet du Toit #976384. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1392859). Singin' in the Rain is a 1952 American musical romantic comedy film directed and choreographed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, starring Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds and featuring Jean Hagen, Millard Mitchell and Cyd Charisse. It offers a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood in the late 1920s, with the three stars portraying performers caught up in the transition from silent films to talkies. The film was only a modest hit when it was first released. O'Connor won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor â Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, and Betty Comden and Adolph Green won the Writers Guild of America Award for their screenplay, while Jean Hagen was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. However, it has since been accorded legendary status by contemporary critics, and is often regarded as the greatest musical film ever made and one of the greatest films ever made, as well as the greatest film made in the Freed Unit at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It topped the AFI's Greatest Movie Musicals list and is ranked as the fifth-greatest American motion picture of all time in its updated list of the greatest American films in 2007.In 1989, Singin' in the Rain was one of the first 25 films selected by the United States Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry for being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant. In 2005, the British Film Institute included it in its list of the 50 films to be seen by the age of 14. In 2008, Empire magazine ranked it as the eighth-best film of all time. In Sight & Sound magazine's 2022 list of the greatest films of all time, Singin' in the Rain placed 10th.Well, this arrangement for Brass Quintet supports the accolades of this glorious song and show. The tempo, style, and dynamics change in every section, but similar patterns and chord progressions tie them together. The individual lines are super easy, but when all put together with the markings and variation it sounds quite exciting and special. A great piece for working on controlled playing and interpretation. A lovely addition to any recital.

Tchaikovsky's lyrical mastery of the waltz is aptly demonstrated in this miniature from a set of twenty-four short works written in 1878. Trumpet parts in B-flat and alternate C are included and flugelhorn/trumpet substitute for horn. The sound file is an actual brass quintet performance of the entire arrangement and not a computer playback of the score. When coupled with my SMP brass quintet arrangement of Tchaikovsky's September from the Seasons or my transcription of his Andante from String Quartet No. 2 at Kendor Music it makes an attractive Tchaikovsky set. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was one of the first songs written by McCartney, who wrote it when he was 14. The song was recorded in a different key than the final recording; it was sped up at the request of McCartney to make his voice sound younger. It prominently features a trio of clarinets (two regular clarinets and one bass clarinet) throughout.

One of those pieces was titled Northern Song. I have divided the thick original piano chords into an Instrumental Quintet. When playing this song use your ears to make sure every note of the chord is equally blended and balanced amongst all instruments in your ensemble. A copy cat imitates and mimics another and a cha-cha is a Latin American dance. Put them together and you have a vibrant piece where the instruments in the band do just that in a South American style! After a short intro, the trumpets begin with a catchy melody, then the clarinets jump in to repeat it. Next, the trumpets reprise what the clarinets and flutes just played! Then the flutes get their chance to play the melody, the saxes their opportunity, and everybody gets into the act, all the way down to the deep, low brass. When the piece concludes and the applause dies down, the audience will be humming and whistling this melody all the way to the parking lot! Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1074352 Composed by Stanley M Hoffman. Classical,Contemporary. Octavo. 32 pages. Stanleymhoffman.com #678653. Published by stanleymhoffman.com (A0.1074352). PROGRAM NOTES As of the present writing, this choral tone poem had been gestating for over thirty years, and the concept and harmonies for it for over forty years. In the 1980s I began to work with the latter two in my brief orchestral piece Little Sea Nocturne. When reading the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe (1809â1849), I am most struck by how musical they are. When recited aloud they exhibit their own rhythmic sense. I was eager to incorporate those rhythms into my music. I had long been familiar with his poem The City In the Sea and began to sketch choral passages for the present choral tone poem in the 1990s. It took me until 2022 to complete it because I required many more years of experience at my craft to do so to lead into out of the choruses. In 2012 I completed a seven-minute unaccompanied version of the choruses with music unique to and unifying it simply called The City In the Sea. In composing The City In the Sea - Choral Tone Poem, my goal was to write a piece that, while steeped in tradition, sounds unlike anything in the literature that had come before it. The result is an original hybrid work that successfully and memorably combines salient aspects of the tonal, atonal, and modal musical languages into an organic whole. George Perle coined the term âtwelve-tone tonalityâ to describe the music of Alban Berg and composers influenced by him such as Luigi Dallapiccola. The last title of which I am aware that accomplishes anything remotely related to what I am trying to accomplish musically in this choral tone poem is the piece Paradiso Choruses by Donald Martino (1974). However, I take twelve-tone tonality in entirely other directions in my work. That the duration of The City In the Sea - Choral Tone Poem came out to be thirteen minutes seems appropriate for piece about a sunken city. Rather than write program notes that narrate how the music unfolds I will simply shout out the most memorable aspects of what careful listeners will discern: a recurring heartbeat motif; shifting polychordal harmonies; echo technique; rhythmic diminutions and augmentations; an a cappella chorus featuring those harmonies with a surprisingly memorable recuring theme on top; sensuous flute duets; string section underpinnings by way of either sustained passages or wave-like gestures; tritone-related melodies, harmonies, and tone centers; several strategically placed grand pauses; tritone-related modal-sounding passages; melodic and chord clusters, especially the two climactic ones.
